I was surprised when my gynecologist told me I was having an "elderly pregnancy" when I had my first child at 38. A second followed when I was 40. I never felt old, even though I was old enough to be the mother of some of my children's friends' mothers. I was glad that I had the wisdom to be a better mother than I would have been in my 20s.
