My father was an only child and his father died when he was 13. I asked him once what he remembered about his father and he said nothing. I was stunned.I assumed he had plenty of memories but had buried them, as you point out, subconsciously. My father would never have explored his lack of memories and had no interet in talking about his feelings. I hope you find peace.
