My mother took the lead on this issue, thankfully. At 94 she moved into an independent living apartment and told the family she would move over to the assisted living section when the time came. She decided that too and at 97 moved into the area where she got more care. We still had the problem among siblings when it came time to hire private aides for her and we ended up in court --- ugly!
