Speaking of how society pushes portrayals of older people, I showed the title page of Crow’s Feet to an acquaintance of mine in her late 60s. She suggested it would be better if the woman pictured was smiling instead of her calm, downturned lips. I disagreed, saying I found her face full of life and wisdom, not some air-blown, vague expression of ‘happy.’ I realized how so many people identify with the the phony, airblown look.
