When it comes to motivating movement, working with my mother’s aides, we have developed a daily routine of at least 3 walks around her assisted living residence. My mother is 102 and she has three compressed vertabrae in her lower back. She takes a low dose of Tramadol 3x day and could claim to much pain to walk. However, to get moving, we play her old favorite songs and she sings and glides around with her walker. Sometimes other residents joins the ‘conga line’ and everyone has fun and forgets their pain for the moment.
